Ashta Koota matching is the classical Vedic system of assessing marriage compatibility. It compares the Moon’s Nakshatra of both partners across 8 parameters (kootas) and produces a total Guna score out of 36. A score of 18 or above is generally considered acceptable; 25 or above is considered good.

The traditional minimum is 18 Gunas out of 36. Scores between 18–24 are acceptable, 25–32 are good, and 33–36 are excellent. However, Guna score is only one part of the assessment — Nadi Dosha and Mangala Dosha must also be checked separately.

Nadi Dosha occurs when both partners share the same Nadi (birth star energy group — Aadi, Madhya, or Antya). It scores 0 on the most heavily weighted koota (8 points). Classical exceptions apply when both partners have different Rashis or different Nakshatra Padas — Sahita automatically checks these exceptions.

Mangala Dosha (also called Kuja Dosha) occurs when Mars is placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house of the birth chart. If only one partner has it, it is traditionally a concern. If both partners have it, the Dosha is generally considered cancelled. Sahita checks this automatically from both birth charts.

Yes. Sahita supports matching by date of birth alone (without birth time). The Guna Milan score is usually reliable from the date alone, provided the Moon was clearly in one Nakshatra for the full birth date. Mangala Dosha analysis is more accurate when birth time is provided.
