A blunt caveat: the specific ghatika within any window can only be pinned down for a specific bride and groom because it depends on their birth nakshatras (tara bala) and their moon rashi (chandra bala). Two couples shortlisting the same fortnight can end up with two different lagnas. This is exactly the check the Sahita app automates in under a minute, and is the reason the classical texts insist on the personal muhurta over any generic ‘good day’ calendar. See our note on wedding muhurta and matched-couple stories for how families have used this in practice.

Blackout Periods to Avoid in 2030

Certain windows in every Hindu calendar year are absolute blackouts — no shubh vivaha muhurta is ever issued during them. Knowing these upfront saves families weeks of misdirected planning. For 2030 the following periods should be avoided when choosing a wedding date:

Chaturmas (Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi to Kartik Shukla Ekadashi)

The four-month period when Lord Vishnu is traditionally said to sleep — roughly from July’s Devshayani Ekadashi to November’s Devuthan (Prabodhini) Ekadashi. No weddings are solemnised in the northern and central Indian traditions during Chaturmas. A very small number of regional exceptions exist in the Deccan for weddings held in temple courtyards on specific dates, but for the vast majority of families Chaturmas is a hard blackout.

Shraddha Paksha (Pitru Paksha)

The 16-day fortnight of ancestor rites, typically in September or early October (Bhadrapada Krishna Pratipada to Ashwin Amavasya). Weddings, house-warmings, and new business openings are all traditionally avoided. This falls inside Chaturmas anyway, but is called out separately because families sometimes forget when planning December weddings backwards.

Adhik Maas in 2030

Good news: 2030 is a regular 12-month lunar year with no Adhik Maas. Adhik Maas is projected for the years 2028, 2031, 2034, and 2036 — 2030 is not one of them. The wedding calendar therefore has its full complement of shubh months, subject only to Chaturmas, Shraddha, Kharmas, and eclipses.

Kharmas (Sun in Dhanu and Meena Rashis)

Kharmas — literally ‘the malefic month’ — is triggered by the Sun’s transit into Dhanu (Sagittarius) around mid-December and again by its transit into Meena (Pisces) around mid-March. Each transit lasts roughly one month. No auspicious muhurta is issued during Kharmas, which is why the December and March windows in the month-by-month table above are truncated after the mid-point.

Eclipses in 2030

A solar eclipse and a total lunar eclipse are projected in 2030. Wedding dates falling within the sutak (impurity) window of either are traditionally avoided. Traditionally the sutak (impurity) window is 12 hours before and 12 hours after a lunar eclipse and 4 to 12 hours around a solar eclipse — during which no wedding, no cooking of prasad, and no auspicious ceremony is performed. A date falling within the sutak of an eclipse is a blackout even if the panchang otherwise shows a good lagna.

Nakshatras Favoured for Vivaha Muhurta in 2030

Not every day within a shubh month is a wedding day. The 27 nakshatras are graded from most favourable to forbidden for vivaha, and only a handful carry the classical ‘shubh’ stamp. The nakshatras below are the eleven most favoured for vivaha muhurta 2030 across all major panchang traditions. Reference the Nakshatra system on Wikipedia for the full 27-star framework.

NakshatraRuling Deity / LordWhy It Is Favoured for Vivaha
RohiniBrahma / MoonBeauty, fertility, prosperity. The most classically favoured nakshatra for weddings.
MrigashiraSoma / MarsGentle, romantic, artistic disposition. Deep bond formation.
MaghaPitrs / KetuRoyal, ancestral blessings. Favoured especially for weddings in families with strong lineage traditions.
Uttara PhalguniAryaman / SunThe ‘marriage star’ — Aryaman is the deity of union. Universally favoured.
HastaSavitr / MoonSkill, prosperity, harmony in daily life. Excellent for householder start.
SwatiVayu / RahuIndependence, mutual respect, adaptability. Favoured for modern couples.
AnuradhaMitra / SaturnFriendship, devotion, long partnership. One of the top three for stability.
MoolaNirriti / KetuFavoured in the southern tradition especially; verify padas carefully.
UttarashadhaVishvedevas / SunRighteous conduct, long-lasting bonds, universal blessings.
Uttara BhadrapadaAhir Budhnya / SaturnWisdom, generosity, family stability.
RevatiPushan / MercuryNurturing, protective, prosperity. The ‘safe passage’ nakshatra.

Notice that all three ‘Uttara’ nakshatras (Uttara Phalguni, Uttarashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada) plus Rohini are grouped as the four ‘dhruva’ (fixed) nakshatras — considered the strongest for lasting bonds. Most panchang-issued vivaha muhurta 2030 dates cluster around these four stars for exactly that reason, especially when family astrologers want a rock-steady lagna for the saptapadi.

Tara Bala and Chandra Bala — The Personal Muhurta Check

A general muhurta calendar can shortlist a fortnight. It cannot pick your date. The reason is that two personal factors — tara bala and chandra bala — depend on the specific birth nakshatras and moon rashis of the bride and the groom. A date that is universally shubh in the panchang can still be inauspicious for a specific couple if either partner is running vipat, pratyak, or vadha tara on that day.

Tara Bala

Tara bala is calculated by counting the nakshatra of the day from the person’s birth nakshatra, then dividing by 9. The remainder places the day in one of nine categories: Janma, Sampat, Vipat, Kshema, Pratyak, Sadhaka, Vadha, Mitra, and Ati-mitra. Sampat, Kshema, Sadhaka, Mitra, and Ati-mitra are favourable. Vipat, Pratyak, and Vadha are the taras to avoid — a wedding started on a Vadha tara for either partner is classically warned against.

Chandra Bala

Chandra bala measures the Moon’s position on the wedding day relative to the person’s natal moon rashi. Moon in the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th, or 11th house from natal moon is favourable. Moon in the 4th, 8th, or 12th is inauspicious. Because the Moon changes rashi every 2.25 days, chandra bala is the fastest-moving of the personal factors — and the most common reason a general muhurta shortlists ten days but only three of them work for a specific couple.

Both checks are why kundali matching for marriage and the muhurta check are treated as separate but complementary steps. The 36 Guna Ashta Koota confirms the pair are compatible. The muhurta check confirms the day and lagna are auspicious for that specific pair. Most families do the 36 Guna check first; once the match is cleared they run the muhurta check for the shortlisted fortnight.

Regional Variations in Vivaha Muhurta

Muhurta traditions vary noticeably across regions of India. The pan-Indian Drik Panchang framework is authoritative in most northern and central states, but families in the south, east, and west often follow their own regional panchang which can add or remove windows. Here is a brief regional map:

Karnataka — Ugadi window and Aashadha exclusion

Karnataka families rely on the Kannada panchang (Vakya or Drik) and give particular weight to the fortnight after Ugadi (Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, typically late March or early April). The month of Aashadha is a hard exclusion as elsewhere, but the Kannada tradition sometimes allows specific weddings in the second half of Shravana under strict conditions. See the Kannada kundali matching guide for the regional matching rules that pair with these dates.

Tamil Nadu — Panguni and Chithirai windows

The Tamil calendar’s Panguni month (roughly mid-March to mid-April) and Chithirai (mid-April to mid-May) are the two most auspicious wedding windows, culminating in Panguni Uthiram — a day considered universally shubh. Aadi (mid-July to mid-August) is a hard blackout, as is Margazhi in some sampradayas. The classical Tamil thirumana porutham guide covers the associated matching framework.

Kerala — Malayalam calendar and Chingam wedding fondness

Kerala’s Malayalam calendar names Chingam (August-September) as the most auspicious month, with strong preference for weddings held after Onam. The Karkidakam month (July-August) is avoided. The Malayalam jathaka porutham guide details the local matching rules.

Bengal — Poush Sankranti and Ashtakoot alignment

Bengali families follow the Bishuddha Siddhanta panchang; Poush Sankranti (mid-January) opens the pre-spring wedding season. Weddings during Malamas (the intercalary month) are avoided. Bengali kul-purohits pay extra attention to the Adi-Madhya-Antya nadi combination alongside the muhurta. See the Bengali koshthi milan guide for the paired matching framework.

Maharashtra — Akshaya Tritiya and Chaitra windows

Maharashtrian families give Akshaya Tritiya (Vaishakha Shukla Tritiya, typically late April or early May) the status of an abuja muhurta — a day that needs no other check and is auspicious for weddings, house-warmings, and business openings. The Chaitra and Vaishakha months are also strong. See the Marathi janmakshar matching guide for the associated 36 Guna checks.

How Sahita Helps You Check Vivaha Muhurta 2030

Sahita Vivaha Matching runs the personal muhurta check for both partners in about sixty seconds. Enter the birth details of the bride and the groom, shortlist a fortnight from the 2030 table above, and Sahita cross-checks every date in that window against both partners’ tara bala and chandra bala, flags any Vadha tara or 4/8/12 chandra positions, and returns a ranked list of dates with the best lagna windows. The check is free — no login, no astrologer upsell, no advertisements — in eleven Indian languages.

  1. Install Sahita from Google Play and pick your language (English, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, Gujarati, Bengali, Odia, Punjabi).
  2. Enter the bride’s and groom’s birth details (date, time, place).
  3. Open the Muhurta module and pick a 2030 fortnight from the auspicious window table above.
  4. Sahita cross-checks tara bala and chandra bala for both partners against every date in that fortnight.
  5. Read the ranked list — dates that clear both personal checks are shown at the top.
  6. Share the shortlisted dates with your family astrologer to pin down the exact lagna.

For families who have already done the compatibility check, the muhurta module is the natural next step after kundali matching by date of birth clears. The two modules use the same birth details, so once you have entered them for the 36 Guna check, the muhurta check runs in seconds. Read the 2-minute match that saved a wedding for a real family story.

ಪದೇ ಪದೇ ಕೇಳಲಾಗುವ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳು

What is vivaha muhurta?

Vivaha muhurta is the astrologically auspicious moment — a narrow lagna window of one to three ghatikas — chosen for performing the wedding ceremony. It is decided by simultaneously satisfying six panchang factors (tithi, vaar, nakshatra, yoga, karana, lagna) plus the personal tara bala and chandra bala of both bride and groom, while avoiding blackout periods such as Chaturmas, Kharmas, Adhik Maas, and eclipses.

How many auspicious wedding days are there in 2030?

Roughly 60 to 80 general-purpose auspicious wedding days are projected for 2030, spread across the active months: mid-January to mid-March, mid-April to mid-June, and mid-November to mid-December. The number shrinks to 10 to 20 once tara bala and chandra bala are applied for a specific bride and groom. This is why the personal muhurta check is essential — the general calendar shortlists a fortnight, the personal check picks the day.

Is 2030 an Adhik Maas year?

No. 2030 is a regular 12-month lunar year. Adhik Maas is projected for 2028, 2031, 2034, and 2036 — 2030 is not one of them. The wedding calendar therefore retains its full complement of shubh months, subject only to Chaturmas, Kharmas, Shraddha Paksha, and any eclipse sutak windows.

Can we marry during Chaturmas?

In mainstream north and central Indian tradition, no. Chaturmas (from Devshayani Ekadashi in Ashadha to Devuthan Ekadashi in Kartik — roughly July to November) is a hard blackout for weddings. A very small number of regional exceptions exist for temple weddings on specific dates in the Deccan and some south Indian traditions, but the safe default across India is to wait for the Devuthan Ekadashi window in November when the season formally reopens.

How do I find the best muhurta for our specific charts?

Shortlist a fortnight from the 2030 auspicious window table above, then run the personal muhurta check against both partners’ birth details. The Sahita Vivaha Matching app does this free in about sixty seconds — enter the birth data, pick a fortnight, and Sahita returns a ranked list of dates that clear both partners’ tara bala and chandra bala. Take the top three dates to your family astrologer to pick the exact lagna. Install Sahita from Google Play to run the check now.
